Is This Being Racist ?

Have you noticed the proliferation of black people on television commercials and in many of the new TV series.  Most are invariably portrayed in a superior, highly intelligent, and prosperous manner. It would seem they are also selected for the part because they are physically attractive.
Black Americans only comprise approximately 13 percent of the total U.S. population, yet we don't see  Asians or Hispanics getting as much exposure as the Blacks.
What do you think is the reason for this? Sure, a great number of Blacks watch TV, but  they don't have the buying power to justify catering to them by casting so many blacks on TV.
It's as if there is an unwritten broadcast rule that at least one Black must be in every TV commercial or drama series.
Venting these observations is sure to elicit a howl from some labeling the observer as a racist.

Commercials on My Nerves

Television commercials have moved way past good taste.  The stations keep packing them into prime time and keep turning up the volume.

A proposed federal law would give Washington the power to turn down the volume of TV commercials. The bill is called the Commercial Advertising Loudness Mitigation Act, or "CALM."
The act is sponsored by a California Congresswoman who says she's never carried a bill that enjoys so much public enthusiasm. She says only the "do not call" law came close.
The bill would require the Federal Communications Commission to regulate the audio volume on commercials. It bans sound "levels substantially higher than the accompanying program," which is a primary complaint from television viewers.

The full House has already passed the bill unanimously, and two months ago, the Senate Commerce Committee gave its unanimous approval to an almost identical bill. The next step is a floor vote by the full senate, followed by reconciliation with the house version. Lastly, it will be sent to the President for his signature.
There is no schedule on how long final approval of the bill might take, and even after it is signed TV stations, cable companies and advertisers would have a year to comply.

Where was the Press?

A Russian tribute to the September 11 tragedy stands in Harbor View Park in Bayonne, New Jersey.
It is 100' tall, weighs 175 tons, and was shipped in sections and was assembled by a group of Russian artisans.
The "Tear Drop" is lined up with the Statue of Liberty and is very impressive.

Tale of a Television Reporter
Never Assume Things are Like They Seem

His request approved, the CNN News photographer quickly used a cell phone to call the local airport to charter a flight.
He was told a twin-engine plane would be waiting for him at the airport. Arriving at the airfield, he spotted a plane warming up outside a hanger.
He jumped in with his bag, slammed the door shut, and shouted, 'Let's go'.   The pilot taxied out, swung the plane into the wind and took off.
Once in the air, the photographer instructed the pilot, 'Fly over the valley and make low passes so I can take pictures of the fires on the hillsides.'
      'Why?' asked the pilot.
'Because I'm a photographer for CNN' , he responded, 'and I need to get some close up shots.'
The pilot was strangely silent for a moment, finally he stammered, 'So, what you're telling me, is . . . You're NOT my flight instructor?'
